Critically important to BC’s coastal ecosystem, pacific herring spawn every spring in vast numbers providing an unparalleled wildlife spectacle. Unfortunately this year marked the brief return of the non-native industrial herring fishery; an activity that has decimated herring populations and those that depend on them over recent decades. I was fortunate enough to capture some of this year’s action:
