As we swelter in our first real heat wave of the summer, I thought I’d post a few images from our cooler, more temperate spring.
Here on Vancouver Island spring is all about frequent rains, lush vegetation, rushing rivers and the return of our migratory hummingbird friends.
A sudden shoulder injury skiing kept me from my usual activities but afforded me the time to wander close to home and enjoy some of the local waterfalls that come to life at this time of year.
Some require a bit of effort to get to, but the rewards can be spectacular.
The coast is well worth a visit too, as the winter storms settle down and the sun begins to peek through at last.
Finally, spring around here wouldn’t be complete without the frenetic activity of returning migratory rufous hummingbirds. Following blooming spring flowers north all the way from Mexico, these iridescent little dynamos brighten up any spring day.
I hope you’ve enjoyed a little reminiscing about a cooler time of year…now back to summer! Enjoy!
