So you’d like to try your hand at creating a beautiful gallery wrapped canvas print from one of your images? Well, you’re in luck! I’ve just posted a video on my YouTube channel that shows you how to do just that.
Done well, a gallery wrapped canvas print will last for many years and depending on how large you make it, can be a subtle addition to your existing decor or a bold centrepiece that commands attention.
The process isn’t too difficult to follow and requires only minimal specialty gear. There are lots of “gotchas” though that I highlight in my video along with other tips and tricks every step of the way.
Soft Proofing

The first step for your project is selecting an image and optimizing it on the computer to be printed on canvas. This is called soft proofing; we use the computer to simulate how the image will look printed and make adjustments to optimize color and contrast.
Edges

Next, you need to decide how you want the edges of the print to look. Some choose a solid colour such as black while others wrap the image around the frame.
Build the Frame

The frame is constructed of specially shaped wood lengths called stretcher bars. These are easy to source online. I demonstrate how I figure out how large to make the frame relative to the print and methods of cutting and joining the corners.
Stretching the Canvas

This is the process of actually attaching the finished print to the frame and wrapping the edges around the stretcher bars. The trickiest part is getting everything perfectly aligned and then neatly tucking the corners of the print into a subtle fold.
Finishing Touches

Finally, I cover adding hanging hardware and other finishing touches and “voila!” You now have your favourite image beautifully presented for years of enjoyment.
